Based in Mornington Peninsula, Be Fit Food is the product of Save and Draper’s desire to help patients struggling to manage their weight by providing them with scientifically-formulated meals delivered to their door that will help them to meet their goals.
The philosophy of the business is to provide ready-made meals to customers with a low calorie count, no added sugar, low sodium levels, plenty of plant-based foods and vegetables with “just the right amount of protein”.
“It took us almost three years to reach more than a handful of people because they couldn’t understand what we were doing differently, and how we were doing it,” Save says.
“Both Geoff and I as clinicians aren’t the best at marketing – we’re not business-minded. The science was there… [and] we soon realised we needed a marketing team, we needed a digital strategy and we needed the best website to be able to convey our message.”
An appearance on Network Ten’s Shark Tank was a key moment in the company’s development, with Allis investing in the business and bringing her extensive experience to the table.
“Shark Tank was probably the turning point for this business,” Save says. “It was our way of communicating the mess of Be Fit Food. We got more enquiries, more expressions of interest from people than we ever thought would’ve been interested in our product.”
Accepting the 2018 Telstra Victorian Business of the Year Award at a ceremony in Melbourne on Tuesday 31 July, Save said it represented an opportunity for the business to share its message about the importance of healthy eating.
“Winning the Telstra Business Awards means getting national recognition for our business and getting to convey our message to Australians,” she said
“We are here to disrupt the diet industry, the supplement industry and the pharmaceutical industry.
“We believe that food is medicine and we are here to make sure that real food – whole food – is the way of the future.”
While Be Fit Food’s clients have enjoyed the delights of the company’s nutritious menu, the Telstra Business Awards judges also believe the business is simply delicious, giving it top marks.
“Be Fit Food is becoming a serious competitor to the major brands in the home-delivered meals sector,” they said.
“With a customer-focused attitude, and additional offerings of unique personal eating advice from expert dieticians, Be Fit Food looks to be unstoppable.”
The business also took home the 2018 Telstra Victorian Small and Succeeding Award.
Celebrating its 26th year, the Telstra Business Awards showcase the achievements and entrepreneurial spirit of Australia’s best small and medium businesses.

Jean Hailes for Women’s Health, an organisation that provides women with knowledge and clinical care to assist them through the whole of their life, won the 2018 Telstra Social Change Maker Award.
