    Innovative online GP platform named 25th Telstra Australian Business of the Year

    GenWise Health, a micro business using technology to improve how general practitioners provide aged care, is the 2017 Telstra Australian Business of the Year. GenWise Health, based in South Australia, is an online clinic platform that enables GPs to save time, improve efficiencies and connect directly with their medical community. They also won the 2017 Telstra Micro Business Award.

    • New Business Award– Over The Moo, a dairy-free ice cream brand made from coconut milk, stocked in 400 independent supermarkets and over 500 Woolworths stores. (New South Wales)
    • Small Business Award – Love To Dream, a provider of swaddles and baby sleep bags that allow babies to sleep safely, soundly and more comfortably. (New South Wales)
    • Medium Business Award – ELK, an independent  fashion label with a diverse collection of apparel and accessories, “designed locally, handmade globally.” (Victoria)
    • Charity Award – MS Research Australia, the country's largest not-for-profit organisation dedicated to funding and fostering collaboration in MS research. (New South Wales) 
    GenWise co-founders, Dr Sebastian Rees and Dr Troye Wallett. GenWise Health have been named the 2017 Telstra Australian Business of the Year.

    Telstra Group Executive Consumer and Small Business and Awards Ambassador, Kevin Russell, said the national winners represented the best in business and charities in Australia. “The 2017 Telstra Business Awards winners are proving that innovation, technology, and the courage to take risks enables them to become a leader in their field,” Mr Russell said. 
    “In particular, the 2017 Telstra Australian Business of the Year, GenWise Health, is an innovative, purpose-driven business, led by directors who are customer-oriented and have a palpable passion for meeting a need in a growing sector.” 

    GenWise Health co-founder, Dr Sebastian Rees, said the business aimed  to address the challenges  for GPs working in aged care. “Traditionally, it is challenging for  GPs to work in the aged care sector due to inherent inefficiencies. By building an online clinic platform, that saves time and allows for better remuneration, we’re able to attract more GPs into this rapidly growing area of health care,” he said. 

    Mr Russell said the celebration of 25 years was a major milestone for the Telstra Business Awards, which continued  to honour the achievements of Australia’s best small and medium businesses and more recently charities. The Telstra Business Awards give business and charity owners the chance to reflect on their achievements, assess their organisation's strengths and weaknesses, access unparalleled networking opportunities, pursue new ventures, and build their profile.
